Young rapper HA joins us for a first convo as part of our Rising Interview series. He has a unique vibe, fresh sound and big future. He is currently working towards his first official releases.

I’ve been working on my craft, playing around with different sounds, different beats.

This past year for many reasons surrounding the pandemic has been a challenge for many artists! How have you found this period of time? How have you been keeping?

I’ve found this pandemic and this whole period of time as an opportunity for growth. I’ve been working on my craft, playing around with different sounds, different beats. I found a few artists and inspiration which I wouldn’t have found if not for this time, so it has been useful.

Following on from that, which artists in particular? And what artists do you draw from for inspiration in general?

I guess it would be Sheff G - I’ve taken a liking to his music, I’ll be real. I listen to him a lot - before I write something I would listen to him, or even while I’m writing. I used to listen to his music before lockdown, but it was only during that I started recognising aspects of his music which I began implementing into my own writing.

there’s a vibe… you just slap on your ear phones and just deep the lyric

For those who haven't heard your music yet, how would you describe it?

I would describe it as energetic, you know? It gets people dancing, bopping their heads, making TikTok's and that. But then there’s another side to it you know, where there’s a vibe… you just slap on your ear phones and just deep the lyrics, you know. It’s a vibe, you get me?

What got you into making music?

When it comes to starting music, it was just for fun really. Me and my boys at school used to record raps and stuff like that, and all of them used to say I was hard and that, so I just kept doing it for fun really. I posted it on my INSTAGRAM as well, saw people were liking it so I continued.

What makes you who you are?

I would say situations that have occurred to me in the past are what makes me who I am. Things that have happened with friends and family - some good, some bad… I would say, personally situations and certain environments mould you into the person you are, and mine made me who I am.

Final question - What can we expect from you over the next few months? What is up next?

For the next few months I’m gonna be quite consistent, you get me… You should be looking out for the freestyles that I am posting on INSTA. You never know, some of them could turn into a little song… Speaking of songs, I got a couple pending so look out for that as well.
